This is the final product of my metamorphosis project. I added some butterflies to it and it looks good. If I could do anything different, I would add more butterflies. I really like the story behind it as well as the composition itself. I guess I'm pretty happy with how this turned out. If I could do it again, I would make the gesso thicker that way you couldn't see anything underneath the project.

In my other post, I said I changed my idea. I decided that instead of her blood turning just into butterflies, I wanted her thoughts to be displayed too. Her blood is now turning into her thoughts AND butterflies. By her thoughts, I mean the words "Help Me". In a way just the words are a metamorphosis in themselves. The letters start out small and slowly progress into being larger. The blood splatter part was honestly my favorite. It turned out a lot better than I thought it would. In order to create the blood splatter, I first created three different "blood" colors. Then I took a brush and a toothbrush and I first just painted around the face with the brush. Then I took the toothbrush and got paint on it and started running my fingers over the bristles and let the paint splatter itself out. I think it turned out really well.
After I started the project, I kind of changed my idea slightly. I decided to take a picture of someone and collage it onto a canvas. Before I collaged her, Mrs. Maclay gave me the idea to incorporate maps into the piece. I decided to rip up maps of Alaska and collage them as the background. Her standing on the maps symbolizes that she is a "lost girl". My idea for the metamorphosis part was originally just to turn her blood splatter into butterflies. I changed my mind with that and I had an even better idea. As I approached the blood splatter though, that was the fun part.
For this project, I wanted to do something similar to this picture. The artist of the original is Banksy. I really liked that the blood splatter turns into the butterflies and I wanted to base my project off of it.
For my final project, I chose these three pictures. I matted these in white to make them stand out. I think that the white looks like a really good contrast. I'm very happy with how this project has turned out. I wouldn't change anything with this project because I don't think I need to. I am very fortunate enough to have my project be in the Scholastic 144 and I'm really happy about that. I think this piece turned out amazing, just like I wanted it to. I'm very proud of this.
These are the three pictures I chose to be in the project. I narrowed it down to these three out of the six because they were honestly my favorite. This is the order they are laid out on my project as well. I decided to tell a story through these three pictures. The story would be that there is this run down place that is all taken over by plants and its falling apart, yet this girl still lives in this old worn down house and continues to play like nothing is changed, or something along those lines. My idea for this project was creepy. I think that the worn down house and the picture of the girl (my model was Brenna.. thanks B) the way I have edited them in black and white makes it look pretty creepy. I honestly can't wait to put it all together and finish the project. I'm very happy with how these pictures turned out. I don't usually use photography for projects but I really enjoy taking photographs outside of school, so I decided to mix them. I wanted to venture out into something new. I'm very glad I chose this for my project and I can't wait to see it completed.
I used photography for my scholastic 144. There's not really any sketches that I can show you per say but here are my top 6 photographs after editing them. Now, it was hard to choose my top 6 because I had taken 33 photographs originally. My idea for this project was to just take some creepy photographs and just be done pretty much. I wasn't really sure how I was going to make this work to be honest. I was so stressed out. I narrowed these down to my top 6 because I really liked the creepy factor of them. I also really liked that I took them in the day time so it has contrast in the darks and lights of the pictures. After I took the pictures and edited them that is when I got my idea. I decided to tell a story through the pictures. After I had chosen my pictures (which you will see in the next post) I took them to Mrs. Maclay and she helped me to arrange them in the order I wanted.
My second artist I chose is Jackson Pollock. He was from Cody, Wyoming. He was 44 when he died. I really like his work because its all so abstract. I love how its just splatters of paint, but the way that some of it lays, looks like it could tell a story. I believe he makes his art by taking his "canvas" and just splattering paint everywhere.
The first artist I chose is Isaiah Zagar. He is from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is 77 years old. I really love his art because its so abstract yet it all goes together. The art that he produces helps make they cities they are in beautiful. I like the way it almost tells a story. Looking at this art makes me very happy so that is another reason I love his art. I believe his art was made by taking random pieces of tile and cementing it to a wall to form pictures.
